The Unites State's first basic income experiment aims at giving away free money for 100 Oakland natives this summer in the amount of $1,500 per month. The goal you ask. Well according to supporters of the experiment,
"Proponents of basic income say that with our basic needs fulfilled, people can focus on being creative and adding something to society rather than on maintaining jobs that robots can do better than us."
The idea behind this social experiment is to solve the technology problem. More specifically, the automation problem such as drones, driving cars and "artificial" intelligence that seems to be dominating the blue-collar workforce. With less need for human workers, many people are left to reconfigure how to pay mortgages, car notes while providing for their families. The only thing is, if you're reading this, you're like me...not an Oakland native. I wonder if there will be an influx in Oakland residents this summer?
