Though it should be no surprise to anyone that Ben Simmons, 19, will be the No. 1 pick during Thursday's NBA draft, it is fortunate for Philadelphia 76ers' fans. Simmons isn't unamiously the top prospect in the 2016 class but, he is among the higher ranks of those like Duke's Brandon Ingram.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com stamped that Simmons received word from Philadelphia that he would be the No. 1 drafted rookie. Simmons himself even subtly hinted on his new home as well:
This move would be heavily beneficial on Philadelphia's behalf. Over the past three seasons The Sixers held a record of 47-199 and have been going through a restless construction period. Incoming rookies over the years dreaded coming to Philadelphia and being the face of a dying dynasty. However, this season it's long at the end of the tunnel for Philadelphia. With significant players such as Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor, Simmons would be a good fit for the team. The city of Philadelphia has hope that with this big three, the franchise could become a playoff contender once again for the first time in six years.
