Chicago street artist Kane One is making a bold impact on the Basketball Courts in Chicago. Kane One recently interviewed with Green Label to detail his take on the urban life in Chicago and his perspective on changing the outlook for kids in urban communities by redefining the idea of a canvas to transform a basketball court on the campus of Willa Cather Elementary School in Chicago.

“People grow up with this grind mentality in Chicago that keeps us humble,” he said.

A staple in the streets and on the walls, Kane One has been an active graffiti artist in Chicago since 1989. With a graffiti career stretching over 20 years, he’s a member of the storied Def Con 5, Dirty Thirty, and Just 4 Fun crews. He teaches the History of Graffiti at SAIC and taught a curating group graffiti/street art exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago in 2013.

With #COURTSIDECOLLECTION, they showcase how Chicago street artist KANE-1 turns Basketball Courts into inspiring murals. To celebrate Mtn Dew and their efforts to make communities a better place for the youth, Mtn Dew came up with the hashtag #CourtsideCollection to round up talented graffiti artists around the world who have been hand-selected to curate a custom gallery of up to 150 pieces of artwork submitted on Instagram to pay homage to their city.
