Former NBA center Darryl Dawkins (76ers, Nets, Jazz, Pistons & Globetrotters) has passed away today at 58 years of age today at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Pennsylvania. Inititally reported by WFMZ and then confirmed by the New York Daily News. The cause of his passing has yet to be reported.
Being drafted into the NBA in the 1975 NBA draft, Dawkins was nicknamed "Chocolate Thunder" - given to him by the living legend Stevie Wonder. Known best for shattering backboard with ferocity, we've grabbed a few of his highlights to share with you all. "During his NBA career, Dawkins averaged 12.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. Most recently, he served as the head coach of the Lehigh Carbon Community College men's basketball team."
