Officers Eric Weibel and Phillip Kidd, two University of Cincinnati officers who were also involved in the Samuel DuBose shooting were named in a wrongful death lawsuit.
The officers restrained Kelly Brinson, a psychiatric patient, while another officer tased the victim. Brandon would go into cardiac arrest and die a few days later. Though the coroner ruled the death “natural causes” the family settled the suit for over $600,000.
In officer Kidd’s initial statement he claimed to observed DuBose drive off and dad officer Tensing, directly refuting the body camera footage released to the public.
Both officers testified before the grand jury investigating the fatal shooting of Samuel DuBose by Ray Tensing and are on administrative leave.
