Stacey Dash's comments about not having a Black History Month rubbed many people the wrong way, and made some question why she as an African-American would want to get rid of a month that celebrates black culture when she has used black culture to help advance her career.
"African-American kids were told that Dash wanted to cancel Black History Month, and the kids in the video had a lot to say. One if questioned "Is that legal?" On fox, Dash said the following, “If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards, and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” Dash stated. “If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard […] Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. We’re American, that’s it.”
The video isn't about bashing Dash, but instead about celebrating black culture, and learning about the history. One kid said, “It forces us to talk about our amazing history and it didn’t begin with slavery, no negativity, no stereotypes, all excellence because that’s who and what we are.”
