Straight Outta Compton keeps setting records left and right. The movie is now the number one biopic and one of the highest grossing movies from a black director (making over $200 million thus far).
During opening week, Director F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton made over $60 million its first week, and has now grossed over $200 million, mostly from US sales. International sales make $38.9 million is sales. It was also the No. 1 movie three weeks in a row.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, four international regions have yet to release the movie which means that the film’s international revenue is only going to increase.
Straight Outta Compton is currently in third place compared to Peter Ramsey’s 2012 release of "Rise of the Guardians" with $306 million and the John Singleton directed "2 Fast 2 Furious" which earned $236 million worldwide in 2003. Keenen Ivory Wayans’ Scary Movie (2000) and the Tim Story-directed Fantastic Four (2005) round out the top five with $157 million and $154 million.
