Reports have shown that the U.S. Air Force is looking to fund the development of a system that allows it to easily convert manned air crafts into robot-piloted planes. This will allow for the decrease in human casualties and unlike the autonomous X47-B drone, the robot would use vision-based systems. Primarily, this new improvement would be used for commercial shipping and other uses. This could also include human transport.
Lets be honest, robots would add to the casualty argument, but they also pose a great threat for humans. Technological advances also seem to back fire as we have witnessed with drones. Robots are no different. While there is a decrease in manned flight, what is the trade off? Only time will tell.
