After releasing his debut mixtape titled Blood X Gold Mixtape Vol. 1 a week ago, Bok Nero will be headlining a show titled “Blood X Gold” on March 10th.
The Philadelphia native Bok Nero is Jahlil Beat’s protégé who is signed to his new label Tandem Music Group and Dim Mak. Some things to expect from the rising rapper are his upcoming tour dates with Steve Aoki and collaborations with established artists such as Kid Ink.
Mixed and mastered by Mitchy Millz and executively produced by David Apostrophe, the Blood X Gold Mixtape Vol. 1 blends Hip-Hop and EDM. At first listen, the sound is definitely unique and different from anything that I’d ever heard before, consisting of raw lyrics over an inconsistent beat. As I was trying to analyze the overall message that Bok Nero wanted to relay through his music, there were two songs that stood out to me the most.
First, I would like to highlight “Rise,” which opened with more of a Pop/R&B sound with more emphasis on the vocal aspect. I enjoyed the fact that the EDM beat was not as overpowering as some of the other songs. I was able to clearly appreciate the significance of the verse “We rise and then we fall” while still enjoying the up-beat tempo.
“Lose My Mind” was another one of my favorites from the mixtape. One of the things that attracted me to this song was the fact that it sounds very similar to jersey club music. This song would definitely be Bok Nero’s club banger that would get the crowd hype.
The talented artist stays true to his rare sound in combining multiple genres to introduce a new experience for his audience. I would recommend this mixtape to those of you who are open-minded and value EDM, rather than the flow of the typical Hip-Hop/Rap songs.
Blood X Gold Mixtape Vol. 1 is now available for stream and download on Soundcloud and Dat Piff. On March 10thBok Nero will be sharing the Coda stage with Jahlil Beats, SwizzyMack, Architekt and more.
