Candice Sand. Ingenious. Multi-Faceted. Classicly dainty, yet modernly a queen of her image.

Candice Sand. Ingenious. Multi-Faceted. Classicly dainty, yet modernly a queen of her image.

There's only a few things that can be said about Candice Sand, and they are all positive. Singer. Songwriter. Composer, & musician (guitar) Classy. Genius. Hence, only a few, each word embodies the true definition of her level of craftsmanship and public persona.

A true recording artist she is, as one dreary rainy day I stumbled upon her record while on Twitter. I realized she had followed us, so I in turn followed back and decided to explore who she was, and what she was bringing to the table. 15 mins later, after having her lead single "Go On" (Feat. JRDN) on repeat (at least 5-6 times) I realized how talented and magnificent Candice Sand's artistry was.

Bringing to the table such a positive vibe, and heartfelt lyrics, it was no way in this lifetime I would let this pass. The only word that came to mind was "support" - and that's exactly how we got to this interview your reading now. HF® takes a quick moment to chat with the Toronto based singer/songwriter/performer.... (this list can go on forever) to discuss her creative process and inspirations that power her music on the daily.

WHAT DO YOU FAVOR MOST ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION AS A RECORDING ARTIST?

That's a close call between singing in the both (during the recording process) and sharing the finished songs with the world. I love being in the booth recording my vocals: laying down the lead vocal and making up harmonies. I just find it really fun. BUT I have to say that ultimately, I love sharing the music. I love hearing and seeing people's reactions to a new single or music video. I like to hear why they like a song or why they like a particular moment in a song. Hearing what they connect with in my music... That is what I LOVE.

HOW HARD DO YOU PUSH YOURSELF DAILY?

I never stop! I think it's just the kind of person I am and I've decided that I essentially live by the law of inertia haha I'm always trying to better myself and grow. I rehearse, I songwrite, I work on my vocal technique, I play guitar, I play piano. I continually make goals for myself and each time I accomplish one, a new one is born.

Guitar is the primary instrument for Sand, but her voice may be the primary tool that truly gets the job done.

WALK US THROUGH YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS WHEN WORKING ON THAT NEXT BIG SINGLE.

Well we write everything in the studio and the process can change, simply depending on the day or if there are any guest cowriters on the track. Basically we meet and chat about what kind of sound we want the track to have. Usually by the time we leave that first session we have a musical framework for the song and some strong melody options we've come up with. Sometimes we've come up with a general idea of what the song is about or a title to write from, maybe a few lyrics. Then I take our work home and work on it on my own. I decide what I specifically want the song to be about. I work on lyrics, telling the story, and playing with the melody options we came up with in the session. I always try to plug authentic feelings and thoughts into my lyrics. I want to believe every word I'm singing. I then finish writing as much of the song as I can before the next session. Then we go back into the studio and together we decide what to record as the finished song.

WHAT'S A SIDE OF YOU THAT YOU'D LIKE THE PUBLIC TO SEE MORE OFTEN BESIDES BEING A RECORDING ARTIST?

I think everyone is starting to see it as I release more music, but basically I want them to see that I'm a true optimist. I believe in true love and that dreams coming true. I believe in destiny and most of all that life (in all of it's shades) is beautiful. I want to express this all through my music too. There is so much darkness in music today and I wanna be bright.

WHAT WAS THE EXPERIENCE LIKE WORKING WITH JRDN IN THE STUDIO FOR YOUR HIT SINGLE "GO ON"?

I actually didn't get to work much in the studio with JRDN. We recorded our parts separately. He recorded his first and then I wrote my harmonized melody over his. I did, however, get to film the music video with him and he was a really nice guy. It was - 25 degrees in February and he was a real trooper. Baring the cold and joking around with everyone the whole way through the shoot.

Timeless beauty is plastered all over this face. It's one of the many things that gives Sand a magnetism that's unexplainable.

WHAT'S THE SECRET FORMULA TO MUSICAL SUCCESS? ACCORDING TO CANDICE SAND....

This is a big question! haha well for me, I've found a way to look at things that's keeps me in the game. I really believe that failure is a chosen perception. Also, I think it's really important to get to know who you really are and always be true that person, and what you need to feel whole.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ALBUM BY ANOTHER ARTIST? WHY THIS CHOICE?

I'm gonna have to say "Our Version of Events" by Emeli Sande. Her voice & writing is just so good and the production has so much beautiful space. I never get sick of listening to it.
