In light of the recent police murders of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and countless others, last night Jay Z dropped "Spiritual" on Tidal. It's a single that focuses on growing up black in America with Jay rapping about his personal experiences, from being a father to constantly having his hands in the air.
In addition to the song release, Jay included a written statement on the song's creation and the recent happenings.
"Spiritual" also comes after Beyonce, Jay's wife, gave a tribute to lives lost due to police brutality. During a concert yesterday in Scotland, Beyonce filled the stadium screen with a list of names and then gave an acapella performance of her hit song, "Freedom."
It's good to see the Carter family take a powerful stance on such an important issue.
