Jazz Cartier shows no restraint on “Waste,” a menacing track that further wedges the gap between Toronto’s golden child and his peers as he radiates a sense of the edgy punk rock ethos, while having harnessed a gravitating charisma that’s made him one of music’s most promising emerging talents. Listen to “Waste” here. ‘The Prince of Toronto’ is taking his dynamic, unrelenting live performance on a North American tour spanning 40 cities in the U.S. and Canada this fall. In direct support of Post Malone, the enigmatic rapper has a reputation of engaging his audience, inciting mosh-pits while towering over the crowd, projecting his vocals after climbing atop stage scaffolding, consistently proving himself one of music’s most electrifying performers. “Jazz Cartier puts on one of the most intense live shows in rap,” bolstered Pigeons & Planes, while i-D has added that Jazz Cartier’s “chandelier-swinging swagger balanced boldly with syrupy introspection and purely punk energy.”
Earlier this year, Jazz Cartier surprise-released his Hotel Paranoia project, the anticipated follow-up to his 2015 debutMarauding in Paradise. Named one of Complex’s 40 Best Albums of 2016, Hotel Paranoia earned nominations for MuchMusic Video Awards’ Best New Canadian Artist and a long-list nomination for the renowned Canadian Polaris Music Prize for the second year in a row. On the heels of a European tour that spanned April and May, and included sold out shows in London, Paris and Amsterdam, Jazz Cartier shared the groundbreaking, double-feature 360° virtual reality video forHotel Paranoia stand-outs “Red Alert/100 Roses.” He again caught fans by surprise last month with “Lil Wayne,” a tribute track that caught the attention of Lil Tunechi himself, who called it his “new favorite song.” Continuing to appease the fans’ demand for new music, earlier Jazz Cartier shared another loose track, “Just in Case,” which debuted via Noisey on Beats 1/Apple Music.
