Young Thug's "Best Friend," one of the winter's biggest hits, is now certified platinum. Thugger shared the news on his Twitter account and thanked his fans.
"Best Friend" is a single off of Thug's "Slime Season" mixtape, which was released in September. The track was wildly successful initially, boosted by a music video that went viral. It's Thug's most popular YouTube music video, with 140,100,000 views as of July 4.
The song's braggadocious lyrics and Thug's patented flow made the song an instant Thugger classic, as evidenced now by the platinum tag. It only took a month for Thug fans to advance the track from a gold certification to platinum; it was certified gold on May 2. The track now marks one of two Thug songs to receive RIAA certifications; the non-album single "Stoner" was released in 2014 and is currently certified gold.
The Atlanta-based rapper is currently one of the biggest names in hip-hop, specifically leading the trap genre. Thug's unmatchable vocals and energy have made him a popular mainstream sound, despite not yet releasing a studio album. Built through a litany of mixtapes and features, his top-tier presence in hip-hop is a reality only confirmed by the accolades of "Best Friend." And at only 24-years-old, the future undoubtedly holds more Thug accomplishments in store.
