Following the Vans and Engineered Garmentsmismatched leather pack, the classic Sk8-Hi has undergone an all black rework with the respected brand once again. When creating this hybrid, minimalist collection of skate kicks, Engineered Garments founder, Daiki Suzuki said the following:
“The design of the Sk8-hi is an updated version of the last release. My first pair of Vans was the Sk8-Hi model in Japan, when Nepenthes would order them and they were still all made in America. To me, Vans was a very American brand. I’ve always been inspired by old Popeye magazines showcasing young Californian skaters. They would get together with their friends while skating and trade one shoe with another friend, making mismatched pairs with their Vans embodying their playful nature.”
Constructed of leather, suede and canvas, the collaborative Sk8-Hi explores different hues of black to create an aesthetic that is elevated but durable for true skaters. Taking the classic silhouette ti new heights is a step in the right direction, lending the shoe to more versatile costumers looking to channel their inner skater, even if they are over 40.
