After news emerged earlier this month of the film adaptation of Monster, author Walter Dean Myers' 1999 acclaimed young adult novel, which stars A$AP Rocky, Nas, and Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Hudson among others, fans of the novel were anxious to see what was coming.
The film's Instagram page has been clever in building anticipation and hype for the film, including snapshots of the script, set locations, and images of the aforementioned stars on the set.
The novel features the story of Steve Harmon - a 16 year old aspiring filmmaker on trial for a murder he claims to not have committed. Kelvin Harrison, Jr., who has showcased his acting chops in the Roots remake and The Birth of a Nation, will play the leading role of Steve.
Monster will serve as the film directorial debut of Anthony Mandler, a successful music video director responsible for works such as Beyonce's "Irreplaceable," Rihanna's "Diamonds," and Jay-Z's "Holy Grail" among a list of countless others.
