Renowned emcee Common has recently released an unofficial remix to Solange's "Cranes in the Sky" on SoundCloud. The original track - which evokes the universal feeling of dealing with grief - proved to be inspirational to the rapper.

In an exclusive e-mail to Fader, Common mentioned that "Every once and a few years, there are certain songs that come out and have the sound of forever. "Cranes in the Sky" is that song for me." He further added "I started mumbling some words to it and then decided I want to write a verse. This is an unofficial remix simply inspired by the love of art."

Expanding upon the groundwork established by Solange, Common expresses some of the unsuccessful remedies used to rid his suffering: "Can't work it away/ Can't drink it away/ Can't laugh it away/ Can't think it away/ That pain come up on you like a thief in the day." Despite his efforts, he realizes and accepts that his pain is inevitable as he momentarily finds solace "in a plastic cup of a false beverage" before being joined by Solange's melodic vocals.
