Renown music-video director, Benny Boom, will replace John Singleton as the director for the long-awaited Tupac biopic. “I am blessed with the opportunity of a lifetime,” he wrote on Instagram. “Telling the story of this revolutionary, artist, visionary, genius, soldier! I will make him proud and uphold the legacy.”
Morgan Creek has had some difficulty getting this project underway. They have had trouble keeping a director with John Singleton, Antoine Fuqua, and Carl Franklin all abandoning ship. Also, the production company fought in court against Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, over music rights.
Hopefully this latest decision will get the film's production steamrolling. They have to start production by the end of the year or Afeni Shakur will win back the rights to her son's music.
