Dave Chapelle's Saturday Night Live debut arrived four days after Donald Trump was elected president, and his surprisingly profound opening monologue focused a good moment on reality, while also intermingling references to Colin Kaepernick, ISIS, Bradley Cooper and Harambe.
The show marked Chapelle's triumphant return to sketch comedy more than a decade after walking away from his widely popular Chapelle Show, and he was as good form as ever. Cultivating the same rapport with his crowd that served as the connective factor of Chapelle Show, Chapelle imitated Trump's first meeting with President Barack Obama, then surprisingly ended on a happy note.
"I'm wishing Donald Trump luck," he said. "And I'm gonna give him a chance, and we the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one too."
Biting, witty and satirical in nature, Dave Chapelle has officially returned to national comedic platform that is well deserved. Check out the full 10 minute monologue above.
