The first annual AfrikCan Festival in Boston will feature big names as DJ Lowdown Loretta AKA Erykah Badu and American - Nigerian standout Jidenna add on to the list of acts.
The festival is headlined by Grammy-winning Malian superstar Oumou Sangare alongside reggae powerhouse band Alpha Blondy -- who are preparing for their Boston premiere, Nigeria's cool-kid Wizkid, Grammy Award winning Angélique Kidjo; Haitian roots rolling-stone Emeline Michel; and South African legend Black Coffee -- who is also gearing up for their Boston premiere.
Afropean R&B female duo Les Nubians, Ghanaian-American MC Blitz the Ambassador, and the homegrown Afrobeat talent of Antibalas will also showcase how their enriched culture has spread throughout the rest of the world.
Young and rising artists like Ghana’s Wiyaala (US premiere), the conscious and soulful Afro-jazz feminist MC Akua Naru (Boston premiere) and the Afrobeat of NYC’s Osekre will also showcase their cultural enrichment and talent.
AfrikCan's overall mission is to enlighten social and cultural awareness about Africa, and to highlight the exceptionalism and greatness of Africa and its people. This is also an opportunity for Africa's rising artist to showcase their talents and culture through fashion, food, music and science.
The festival will be held on July 21-25 atBoston’s Jim Rice Field in Ramsey Park as its expected to bring in a crowd of thousands of people.
