Boxer and Philippine Senate candidate Manny Pacquiao did an interview in the Philippines for his run for office, and said gay people are worse than animals.
"It's just common sense," Pacquiao said in the beginning. "Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations? If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals."
Of course his comment sparked a lot of controversy from many people. Danton Remoto, chairman of the LGBT group Ladlad chimed into the remarks made.
"He is running for a national position and he should be a senator of everybody, not just over-the-hill boxers and straight people," Remoto said. "Otherwise, they would be left behind in the Dark Ages, when the cavemen ruled and the numbskulls roamed the earth." via ESPN
Pilipino singer Aiza Seguerra shared her thoughts on Instagram. "You might've done our country proud but with your statement, you just showed the whole country why we shouldn't vote for you. And yes, I think you are an ignorant, bigoted hypocrite,"
Pacquiao has issued an apology since then, and posted a video on Instagram with a caption that seems to show that he may truly understand why what he said is wrong, and that this is something he is supposed to do.
"I'm sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals. Please forgive me for those I've hurt. I still stand on my belief that I'm against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I'm not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I'm praying for you. "
