The Video Music Awards just might be the biggest event televised this Sunday, August 28, 2016. It precedes the dreaded “back to school” TV commercials that haunts almost every child. It also prompts Labor Day weekend festivals as we wave goodbye to staple all white summer wardrobes and, of course, the MTV Video Music Awards.

This year welcomes the VMAs’ 33rd ceremony, and like every year prior, the epic event is expected to rein in millions of viewers and countless unpredictable (often “WTF”) moments. While last year the VMA's were held at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, for the first time ever, the 2016 VMA's will take place at seminal New York City concert venue, Madison Square Garden.

Confirmed performers include Britney Spears, who's making her comeback, Nick Jonas, Ty Dolla $ign, Future, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande. MTV may have a surprise for viewers on Sunday night because the network has yet to announce the host. But what's no surprise is this years honoree: Rihanna!

According to sources, she will be honored with the Micheal Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Executive Producer Jesse Ignjatovic is giving us major tea about Rihanna's mind-blowing performance. In a recent statement, he shared that "Everyone will be surprised with what she’s done to make this honor her own and something that’s extremely impactful."

Rihanna’s performance will be a “holy crap VMA moment”
