Marcy Borders, who was featured in the iconic “Dust Lady” photo from the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, died from cancer at 42.

On Sept. 11, Borders had been working at Bank of America for a month when the attacks occurred. According to Mashable, she fled from the 81st floor when the plane crashed into the building and made her way out.

"I was choking, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. I was just saying to myself, saying out loud that I didn't want to die." Borders said. "A stranger grabbed me...he took me to safety, and I guess this is where this picture was taken."

Following the tragic day, Borders suffered with depression and drugs. In 2011, she admitted herself into rehab and in 2014 got a job forking on a mayoral candidate’s campaign. However, that is when she found out that she had cancer.

Her family announced on Facebook of her passing. Her brother Michael wrote: "I can't believe my sister is gone."
