Today actress Viola Davis made history. She became the first african-american woman to win best actress in a drama series!

Viola gave a very moving speech to all woman of color saying

"Let me tell you something, the only thing that separates women of color from anyone else, is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here's to all the writers, the awesome people –Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes, people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading women, to be black. And to the to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharie, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union, thank you for taking us over that line."

This speech was honestly something that ALL woman of color needed to hear.

Today we are so used to being beat down and bombarded with hate from all angles. We are constantly put down and not always upheld like the queens that we are.

We have woman like Sandra Bland who lived to inspire and uplift others, who died for her freedom and Bree Newsome who was arrested for taking down the confederate flag in South Carolina.

African-Amercian woman are treasures! If no one else will tell us, we need to tell each other. Woman of color carry so much substance.

I was honestly honored when I listened to Viola Davis as she gave her speech. I felt like for once someone gave woman of color the encouraging words that we need to hear.

As Davis said "The only thing that separates woman of color from anyone else, is opportunity." So to all woman of color, to ALL woman PERIOD ! Uplift each other, love one another, and together lets conquer.
