Recent research shows us that more people are watching YouTube than ever before, and they are especially using their smartphones to do it.
According to Google (YouTube's parent company)'s Chief Business Officer Omid Kordestani, YouTube’s homepage visitor numbers are up over three times year-over-year, and once viewers get to the YouTube homepage, they’re spending more time watching videos on the site than ever before.
The time people spend watching videos on YouTube is now up 60 percent year-over-year. That's the fastest growth rate it has seen in two years, in addition, the time people spend watching videos on their phones has more than doubled from a year ago.
On mobile, YouTube is now seeing average session times of over 40 minutes, said Kordestani, which is up more than 50 percent over last year.
Not bad at all for a site full of funny clips and old song uploads.
