"You Gotta Be" is a compliment to Des'ree's hit single "you gotta be". Why did you choose to revamp that classic, and what does it mean to you?

I chose You Gotta Be because the lyrics really mean a lot to me, it took me so long to realize that I don't need to care so much about pleasing everyone else, and that my own happiness is more important. I feel like this track has that message too, and it's such a feel good song, it's one of those tracks that always puts a smile on your face.

Tell us how you feel after a grueling year of hard work, competition and performing. What's next for you professionally, personally?

I feel blessed! I'm so lucky to do what I love and call it a job. I had an amazing year, working with amazing people! I'm just gonna keep riding the wave, keep writing and recording new music and when the time is right it will be released! Personally, me and my boyfriend are currently saving for a mortgage, so we can't wait to move into our first home together! I guess that's when you finally feel like your growing up haha!

You have a really cool vibe as an artist. Have you found your niche yet or are you still deciding what lane to go down first?

You know, I feel like I know where I'm at right now, I don't doubt that I will dabble in other genres, but I feel like I know where I belong and I'm loving writing soulful music!

When did music become the "love" of your life? Or did it just happen?

I have always loved music. From being really young, I would always be listening to music or dancing and singing to it. When I hit my teens I started to take it more seriously though.

Walk us through that moment you connect with a newly produced instrumental in the studio. Whats going through your mind?

I kind of freak out. I get really energetic and can't keep it all in haha! I guess I get so many visions and ideas going through my head of what we can do with it, that it all floods out at once. (Chuckles)

Who influences you?

I'm influenced by the king and queens!

Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin! I think they hold the pieces of the puzzle as to why music is how it is today! They are icons in my eyes!

Outside of X Factor, what experiences have you had thus far that were game changing to your career as an artist?

Growing up I was fortunate to sing at a lot of Sporting Dinners, for a lot of boxing legends, including Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Lenard, and I think this built up my confidence a lot!

Now what about personally?

Personally my life has been up and down! I've lost a lot of important people in my life, and I think it has made me mature before my time, which is a bad thing because I'm 19. But at the same time you need to have your head screwed on to be successful in this industry!

Has it sunk in yet that you're becoming an international phenom?

No way! I wake up every morning and I can't describe the overwhelming feeling! I'm so fortunate and I have my fans, and my team to thank for being so supportive!

Any collaborations coming soon that we should know about?

Maybe! I can't really say right now, but there is a lot of exciting things coming up the pipeline!

When can we anticipate that debut album? Give us the scoop!

I don't want to rush, I'm going to let things happen organically! In order to get the best out of myself, i don't want to set a date and not be happy come that time! So I guess you guys will have to keep your eyes peeled!

What impact are you hoping to make in the music world?

I want my music to speak to people, if one person a day listens to my music and it makes them feel good, or inspires them, that to me is everything!
