Premiered on Capital Xtra in April, and already on heavy radio rotation across the UK, ‘Better Days’ is the brand new single from creative visionary and Afrobeats queen May7ven. With the commercial firepower to capture the airwaves and dance floors this summer, this new record from May7ven sits perfectly with the new wave of Trap infused with Afrobeats and Pop.
Easily one of the most introspective offerings of May7ven’s career so far, ‘Better Days’ sees the British Nigerian singer, songwriter and performing artist singing about the difficulties of life, as she divulges on a series of bad situations from debt and cheating spouses to suicidal thoughts, in this sneaky, irresistible, catchy, Afro-pop summer anthem, produced by long-time collaborator Antoine Stone.
Now with a fresh perspective and a new lease of life, a brilliantly animated promotional video, she sings on ‘Better Days’, that she is “trying to make her situation better. I’m just trying to come up from the gutter”. May7ven goes into the second quarter of the year, full steam ahead following her headline show at Seabright Arms, a CNN feature in May and an extensive line up of shows in the summer including headlining Afrobeats Live at The Jazz Café on 3rd July, Afrobeats Music Festival on 30th July and Copperbox Arena for the Afro Comedy Festival as a guest artist on the 20th August.
May7ven’s long-awaited debut album firmly in the works for a late 2016 release.
Speaking about the inspiration for ‘Better Days’, May7ven said “Better Days is relatable as we all have bad days and situations that almost tip us over the edge, mine was a little extreme so I put it in the music to inspire and encourage others that may be experiencing depression or difficult times. This record is youthful but it cuts across people of all ages, with an empowering message for everyone, as tough times don’t last forever and things will eventually turn around”.
