Statik Selektah recently debuted his 8th studio LP, aptly titled "8" in light of his 8 consecutive album wins.
A few weeks back, the legendary DJ/Producer held a private listening party in NYC at Max Fish, bring out a handful of heavy hitters who came thru to vibe out to his new sounds.
"8" hosts 18-tracks all featuring one or two outlandishly crafted collaborations. Kicking off the album with a bit of commentary from his daughter, Harley--who capped off the last project-- Statik manages to stay true to the flavor that helped his sound thrive.. the boom-bap's.
The feature selections for each track are rather inventive. You have artists like Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz who grace track #2 pulled from the album, "Man of The Year". Other features include Action Bronson, Run The Jewels, G-Eazy, Joey Bada$$, Termanology, Joyner Lucas, Curren$y, Cousin Stizz, the late Prodigy, and more.
Big shouts to DJ Premier, Termanology, Chris Rivers, Lord Finesse, and everyone else that made an appearance for Statik Selektah's first listen event. A few photos captured from the evening can be seen above.
When asked about the significance of this particular project, Statik kept it really simple:
This is my eighth album. I play a lot of pool. The 8-ball is significant to me. It's kind of like a "finish line feeling" when you get to the 8-ball. So I feel like whatever's next is going to be amazing. I'm at a new point in my career right now. I just signed to Roc Nation. A lot of other stuff is going on. The 8-ball is just an achievement.
"Man of The Year" seemed to be a fan favorite that night. Now that the album is streaming on all digital platforms, I'm sure fans have chosen their new favorites. Tune in below for the new work, and stay tuned for more coming from the Duck Down Music camp.
